SPRING 2024

The Viking Futbol Club Semmes has been offering soccer to the Semmes community since 2006. It is located in the western part of Mobile County, in Semmes, Alabama, and is dedicated to the education and development of the youth soccer player at all levels of play, through our Academy program and competitive teams.

Our club is home to more than 200 players ranging in age from 3-13. It runs programs during the fall and spring.

Our ACADEMY PROGRAM is designed to not only teach soccer skills but to develop a love for the sport of soccer. It consist of weekly session of skills, drills, and games taught by our qualified staff.

Our COMPETITIVE TEAMS are designed to give our older players a chance to use what they have learned in our Academy Program by playing against other players from around Mobile County in a competitive league.

What is the VFC ACADEMY?

The idea for our spring academy style program will be to reinforce the idea that soccer is not only skill based, but fun!   After all, why would we even play a game if it’s not fun?!?!  There are a lot academies that put a lot of focus on competition at younger ages and while that can be fun and rewarding, laying foundations of strong core skills and developing a love and enjoyment for the game will better prepare players for competition level teams as they develop.

Academy students should expect to follow USSF’s Play Practice Play methodology and philosophy where fun games and small sided action help teach players to build on their fundamentals while enjoying the activities in a fun game like setting.

Real soccer skills will be taught and reinforced in the most fun way possible with each session hopefully concluding with small sided games and scrimmages to test out the newly acquired skills.

Sessions will be generally broken into three parts.

Play: Upon arrival.  The most important part is getting players right into the action.  When they arrive they will be set up with other players in their age group and jump right into the action with small soccer games that focus on the skill or concept being presented that day.

Practice: Now it’ll be time to reinforce an age and skill appropriate concept or skill for the day.  One day might be defensive thinking while another could be focused solely on everyone’s favorite part, shooting!

Play: Finally, we will use our new skills in a game like setting, so players really begin to put the pieces together and use the skills they are learning in actual soccer scenarios.  This is best done by playing soccer!!!

WHAT ARE THE VFC COMPETITIVE TEAMS?

The VFC Competitive teams are made up of VFC Rec players that have excelled in the rec league, and want to challenge their skills and progress in the next level of soccer playing.

The idea behind the competitive league is to take players that have started in the Rec league and want to get to the level of tournament teams by exceeding in the competitive playing arena.    In the competitive league we follow the same USSF’s methodology and philosophy as they would in the Academy.

All competitive coaches are licensed and extensively trained thru the North American Youth Soccer League (NAYS) and have undergone extensive background checks.

Our Philosophy is “Train to Succeed”, which means we believe we should practice as we play (Practice hard, play hard), and we make it fun while doing it.  We want them to learn and have a desire to compete, but we also want them to enjoy the experience and desire to return until they get to a point at which they feel they’re ready to try out for tournament teams.

Our players will experience the different playing style of many different competitive teams in our league which gives them the opportunity to observe, learn, and adapt as they grow.

The design of competitive teams is to develop them, keep them together, add to the team when players move on and create more teams in the process.  In doing this we teach them to work as a team, communicate as a team, learn to play to other player’s weaknesses, and to build a united front on the field, all while taking pride in the team they’re a part of and community they’re representing.

Our Competitive Teams Director is Chris Adams who has been involved with Mobile soccer for many years, both on the select level and the Rec  level.  He has been with VFC for the past 6 years as our Director of Coaching.
